Leadership Coaching - The Key to Getting the Best Out of Others

Expert Author Julie-Ann Amos
While the terms "management" and "leadership" are frequently applied interchangeably, they are actually two entirely distinct concepts. The former, however, is a broader term used to indicate the means of ensuring work is accomplished through communicating needs and specifics, monitoring the performance, directing the work and handling any particular aspects to issues that may negatively impact on productivity and/or output. The latter term refers to inspiring, encouraging and motivating others. Management specifically involves control over the staff at your disposal as well as possessing the authority to direct activities and behavior in the workplace environment. Those who work under a manager must do so whether or not it is their desire to do so. When it comes to being a leader, however, these notions are not applicable. It is, instead, the actual qualities or characteristics of someone that defines them as a leader. There is neither compulsion nor obligation to obey a leader. This applies equally to teams and individuals. Someone follows a leader because of a certain innate ability to draw them. These specific characteristics ensure others opt for the direction or means of thinking otherwise ignored or denied.
Only a very few managers are actually good leaders. Yet, many people can become leaders without ever being managers. It is possible for them to guide people, influence them and encourage them along the paths where they are sure to apply themselves to the best of their ability. In any shape or form, a good leader is a highly valuable commodity for any business or corporation. It is particularly important when it comes to such aspects as restructuring and organizational changes.
Change is a problem for many individuals. They find it hard to accept. This is true in all aspects of life, including work. If the work place was ideal, employees would gladly embrace any and all changes required to see that the company not only survives but thrives. Unfortunately, the reality is the polar opposite. Any attempt to change is faced with resistance, hostility and skepticism. The workers fight to retain the status quo. Instead of implementing a voluntary acceptance plan, managers must force employees to adopt the necessary changes. This increases the level of resentment in the work place. Ill-feelings are alive and well creating a negative workplace where productivity and performance plummet. If a good leader is present, however, employees are more apt to embrace and even take up the cause.
While the focus has frequently been on improving management skills, employers have ignored or neglected the ability to improve leadership qualities. This occurs in spite of the ability of leadership skills to encourage positive change, including vital improvements, in the workplace. Yet increasingly, as corporations and other businesses are becoming aware of and appreciate the inestimable worth of good leadership, they have begun to turn towards leadership coaching as a means of further developing the innate capabilities of this aspect of their operation. Online coaching is an excellent source for these individuals. It allows them to strengthen their reputation in business. Corporations who have elected to utilize leadership coaching for their key workers have gained more than an increased sense of cooperation within the workplace. It has strengthened their focus in their business and resulted in increased productivity from their employees.

Breaking Free From the Prison of Depression

Expert Author Dan Jenkins
I am an enemy of depression. I'd like to find a way to help every person who battles depression find the victory over it.
The debate continues: Does depression cause negative thinking, or does negative thinking cause depression?
One of the worst things about depression is how it isolates a person from others. And, it is a vicious circle.. the more isolated you get, the more depressed you get, and then the more isolated you get, the more depressed you get.
I'm an advocate for meds for depression. Much depression is the result of a chemical imbalance in the body and brain. There is nothing about taking meds for depression which can be construed as lacking faith in God, unless you also want to put eating in the same lack of faith, for meeting the needs of hunger! I guess I could say it better this way: taking meds for depression is no more evidence of lack of faith in God than eating to live can be thought of as evidence of lack of faith!
There are several methods which help, besides medication. Exercise is an excellent way to improve our attitude. So, is adding more light wherever we work or rest or play. Artificial full spectrum light is very helpful.
Getting our minds actively focused upon positive, challenging and creative things is also therapeutic. It can be difficult staying with projects, because of depression, BUT, keep pushing.. go a little longer each time. Don't give up. Don't judge yourself. You are fighting a battle of an imbalance in your mind and body.. so, FIGHT!
And, pray. Ask God to give you peace. Tell Him in detail about what is troubling you. And, give it over to Him.
Find something to laugh about. BELIEVE.. believe that God has better plans for you. He does.
Whatever is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, excellent and worthy of praise, think on these things. Philippians 4.8
Back to that question: does negative thinking cause depression or does depression cause negative thoughts? It isn't easy, but the truth is, depression doesn't leave you. You leave depression! How? A combination: medication (legal, prescribed, used according to a doctor's directions), exercise, focus on the positive, focus on others, make small victories, find reasons to laugh, and most important: PRAY.
Believe in God because He believes in you. Whatever you do won't cause God to love you more or less. For, God loves you with an everlasting, unchanging love, no matter what.
If you keep thinking about yourself, you will stay depressed. Break out of that mental prison, one brick at a time.

TMJ Trigger Points - How to Find and Release Them

Expert Author Naomi Kendell
Trigger points in the muscles that control TMJ joint can cause pain in the mouth, jaw and teeth. TMJ stands for the Temporomandibular joint. This joint is the 'hinge' of the jaw joint - a very complex joint that has characteristics unlike any other joint in the body.
What makes the jaw joint unique is that it's part of a pair. You have two joints to hinge the jaw - one on the right and one on the left. They need to move and work in perfect unison for you to chew properly.
This means a lot of subtle movement in the jaw muscles - as well as a lot of strength required for chewing. Because it is so mobile, this jaw joint requires several muscles to operate it - the pterygoids (lateral and medial) the temporalis, and the masseter. And any or all of these muscles can get triggers.
The strange thing about trigger points in the TMJ joint muscles is that they refer pain to unexpected places. Sometimes they can refer pain into your mouth and teeth - feeling exactly like tooth ache. At other times, tmj trigger points can cause pain in the tongue and jaw joint.
People have even had extensive dental work done - only to find out that it was trigger points that were causing their tooth pain.
How do you know whether trigger points or a problem in your jaw joint itself that is causing your pain? The simple solution is this - if you press on an active point, you can recreate the pain that it causes.
So - how do you know where the triggers may be? The answer to this isn't quite as simple. This is because points (very small areas of spasm within the muscle) can refer pain to places outside of that muscle.
Fortunately, the area that each point refers pain is constant - that is, each point will refer pain to the same area - even for different people. These pain referral areas have been well researched and documented.
Check out this free trigger point tool (http://triggerpointmaps.com/) to find out where the tmj trigger points are. Look for the lateral and medial pterygoid muscles, the temporalis and the masseter. Don't try to dwell on the pain because there is always a way to get out from it. On the link I have given above, you will learn how you can release triggers effectively all by yourself.
To release trigger points in the muscles of the TMJ joint, there are several ways. The first and simplest way is something you can try yourself. Using your fingers you can switch off the triggers using the principle of ischemic pressure.
This technique needs to be applied very gently, but it is remarkably effective. You are reducing blood supply to the muscle for 90-120 seconds. This has the effect of 'resetting' the message that has sent the muscle into spasm. To see a video tutorial of this, try Ischemic Trigger Release at lifeafterpain.com

Common Questions About Liposuction

Expert Author Edward Ryan Cullen
Liposuction is the aspiration of fat using surgical equipment, requiring a small incision for extracting it. This is the simplest definition of the most common cosmetic surgery procedure. In the following lines, you will be presented with the answers to some important questions related to liposuction.
How long does hospitalization last?
A simple liposuction intervention does not require hospitalization and is performed quickly. On the other hand, the surgery time is bigger for important interventions, when more than 1 kg of fat is removed. In this case, medical surveillance is required for at least 48 hours.
What body areas are involved in this procedure?
The most common areas where liposuction is performed are the hips and thighs. However, there are also many patients who decide to have it performed on their neck, breasts, abdomen or knees.
How is liposuction done?
This important medical intervention is usually done under general anesthesia, but may be occasionally performed under local anesthesia. Small incisions are made in hidden areas of the body with the use of professional medical instruments. Fat is firstly fluidized by injecting a mixture of substances. The suction device is then inserted and fat is removed from the area involved.
How will you feel after surgery?
Most patients are encouraged to start exercising immediately after the anesthetic effect disappears. However, patients who had important amounts of fat extracted from their body should remain hospitalized.
Post-operative recommendations
The area that has undergone surgery should be protected by special tight dressing. This is really important because it will help prevent the accumulation of blood or other fluids. This special dressing should be worn continuously for at least two weeks after surgery. Furthermore, exercising is prohibited during this period of time.
Types of liposuction
Liposuction with ultrasounds - Ultrasounds are used to break down the layer of fat. This kind of operation will be faster and cleaner, but the disadvantage is the risk of skin burns.
Oscillating liposuction - the fat layer is destroyed mechanically by inserting a tube, producing a fast vibration frequency. Thus, the fat is removed quickly and there is no risk of skin burns.
Where is liposuction performed?
Because liposuction is a cosmetic surgery procedure that is part of dermatology, it is only performed in clinics specializing in this field. The experience of the surgeon is a decisive factor, so choosing the ideal doctor is a step that should never be omitted.

There Is No Hope of Doing Perfect Research

Expert Author Dr. Ugur Guven
One of the most important dynamics of our world is definitely the advancements in science and technology along with the research that goes with it. In fact, without the corresponding research, it would be next to impossible to advance civilization. Moreover, the demands of the modern world are growing day by day and this itself is putting more pressure on the scientists to do more innovative research. However, as stated by Griffiths, "There is no hope of doing perfect research" and this is deemed as an important issue that divides the scientific community. Naturally, there have been a lot of criticisms from the scientific community on this issue, as many scientists will immediately proclaim that their research methods are foolproof and that they have the perfect research methodology.
However, the fact of the matter is that the world's scientific history is filled with examples, in which a perfect scientific solution that was based on decades of scientific research, has been overturned with new theories due to new research methods. Naturally, the first example that comes to mind is the fact that Newton's theories were taught to be foolproof and they were used in all fields of science for motion calculations as well as for dynamic / static analysis of various systems. For centuries, thousands of scientists all across the world used Newton's Theories in tens of different branches of science to formulate other theories and there was not even one dissent among the various scientific communities. However, after nearly two centuries of use, Newton's Theories were found to be not as perfect as they were originally thought.
Through Einstein's publication on the General Theory of Relativity, it was found that Newton's laws were an imperfect fit to explaining all of the equations of motion that was taking place in our universe. Hence, various anomalies such as the anomaly of the orbit of Mercury were found to be corresponding more truthfully with Einstein's theories. Hence, after centuries of use, Newton's Laws were found to be imperfect under some conditions. Even though, Newton's laws are still used today to predict motion at low speeds, they can be supplemented well by using the full Einstein equations of the General Theory of Relativity for more precise results. Thus, this comes to show that what has been regarded as perfect research may not be as perfect as originally thought and in some cases, this may even become evident after centuries of acceptance. Even today, there are new theories which challenge even Einstein's findings, as leading edge fields such as Quantum Mechanics are paving the way for new research and new views on our universe.
Naturally, the above said examples can be diversified and similar contexts can be seen in other branches of science as well too. Whether it is engineering, pure theoretical science or even management research will not matter; as there will always be new methods in research that will come up which can make headway with new theories and new methodologies. For example, much research was done in social sciences and in management theory to create an average view on the basis of sampled data. However, most of these methodologies were improved after the advent of computers and internet. Now, new algorithms have been devised, which allow for much more efficient sampling techniques and as a result more accurate results can be obtained. In fact, these updated techniques and algorithms have been used extensively in political polling in the last decade.
Thus, as it can be seen from various examples, doing perfect research is only a myth. Of course, this does not mean that a scientist should simply give up and accept imperfection in his or her research efforts. It is to be understood and accepted that improvisation and changes in research techniques and methods are a natural part of evolution and it is each scientist's responsibility to take it forward as much as possible. While, the perfect research may not exist, competent research which paves the way for newer and better things is an important reality.
It is the responsibility of the scientist to do everything humanly possible to have a solid research which shows promise for the future with the understanding that no perfect result can be achieved. However, the ability to do high quality research will improve that particular scientist's ability and it will also create foundation for others as well in their possible future work. This can also reduce vanity and create a more collaborative scientific environment where scientists will be sharing their work in the hopes of improving for the future generations. While the ultimate answer to universe's questions may not be present, time will come that the number of questions will decrease significantly, as new answers are found and more improved research is being conducted by scientists all across the world.

Where Does Integrity Come From?

Expert Author Carl Bernard Jenks
A perusal of internet articles on business or career will yield many good points on what integrity looks like or does, but I have yet to find one that answers the question "Where does integrity come from?" If it is an important principle and behavior for me to cultivate to promote my career, which it certainly is, I think it would be important to know where the idea comes from.
Integrity it turns out is a very old idea. Our word comes from the Middle English, but the word and concept dates back all the way to Rome. [And long before I'm sure] Integrity comes from the Latin, "Integritas" and "Integer" Integer is still used today, and is therefore a good place to begin.
Webster's New World Dictionary informs us that integer in Latin means: "untouched, whole, entire" In modern English it means:
"1. Anything complete in itself; entity; whole
2. A whole number - distinguished from a fraction"
From integer we glean two important ideas - the concepts of wholeness and singularity. In math, a whole number is sometimes referred to as an integer. This distinguishes it from fractional numbers. Fractions are numbers that have been divided. If we are going to walk in integrity we must remain whole and singular in our dedication to the principles that we embrace. Professionals conducting themselves in this way can be counted on to be undivided in their commitments, decisions, and actions. A business can thrive with these men and women. Integrity and situational fidelity are incompatible for a career path known for integrity.
Another word that comes down to us from the Latin "integer" is integral. Integral comes from the same root as integer and integrity. It means: "Necessary for completeness; essential, not fractional" Building on the idea of wholeness, integral adds the understanding of how necessary it is for that wholeness to be made complete. Integrity is a solid building block for every enterprise of humanity. Integrity in a structure means that it is solid, well built and dependable. A bridge that has integrity will support the traffic that travels across it. A manager who walks in integrity can be depended upon to get the job done. His role and integrity are integral to the success of the company.
Finally we come to the word integrity itself. Turning once more to Webster's New World Dictionary we have the following definitions:
"1. The quality or state of being complete; unbroken condition; wholeness; entirety
2. The quality or state of being unimpaired; perfect condition; soundness
3. The quality or state of being of sound moral principle; uprightness; honesty; sincerity"
Right away we see the similarities with integer and integral. Integrity is all about wholeness, singularity, completeness, soundness. What we learn in addition is that integrity can have these qualities because it's rooted in a "state of being of sound moral principle" Integrity is not built on shifting sand. Integrity is securely anchored to a base of sound moral principle. This base is characterized by "uprightness, honesty, and sincerity".
Making integrity a hallmark of your career or business begins with knowing what you believe, why you believe it and drawing a line in the dirt that says, "I will not cross this line. I will stay true to these principles." The firmer and clearer they are the easier it will be to walk them out.
Integrity is a career decision reflected in honesty, wholeness, sincerity, and steadfastness in the face of the winds of subtle character erosion. Many persons have set out to be people of integrity, but along the way have lost sight of its origin. Now that you have seen where it comes from may you be better equipped to lead the way.

6 Steps To Better Events

Expert Author Richard Brody
Since I have been involved in the event planning, conference/ convention organizing, and negotiation specialties for over thirty years, I have developed strong beliefs as to what is necessary to optimize one's opportunity for a successful events. While this is being written as it relates to not- for- profit organizations, the concepts and ideas relate directly also to business organizations. These six steps are: 1) Budgeting; 2) Professional negotiations of all details; 3) Flow sheet development and theme; 4) Creating committees and recruiting volunteers; 5) Plan, back-ups and details; 6) Marketing the event (attracting attendees and sponsors).
1) Before anything else can be properly done, an organization must develop a detailed budget for its event. This must include both anticipated revenues and expenses. Revenues must always be calculated on a conservative (worst case scenario) basis, while expenses must also be calculated based on the worst case possibilities (and without assuming hoped- for cost savings. In addition, the expense side of the budget should be done in two stages, one representing those things that are the highest priorities, and the second stage being the wish list. If revenues end up being higher than forecast, some or all of the wish list items can be incorporated into the event.
2) Once the budget is agreed upon, professional negotiators should negotiate every item that is both needed and/ or perceived of. This may include items such as complimentary items, food and beverage, decorations, audio- visual, transportation, etc. Unfortunately, I have too often observe organizations that have had great values negotiated for them professionally, that then lose many of these values because as the event nears, untrained and unqualified, usually well- intentioned individuals seem to decide they "know better" and make changes, often not realizing that once a change is made, many of the items previously negotiated for, may also be lost.
3) A flow sheet must be expertly crafted. This flow sheet must have dual purposes of both optimally serving the needs of attendees (within budgetary limitations), while also showing perceived value to potential attendees.
4) At this stage, organizers must make an all- out effort to recruit and secure volunteers, to assist in the detail planning, as well as the on- premises reception, meeting and greeting, and numerous necessary and needed tasks during the event. The event organizer must spend considerable time analyzing all the needs, and utilizing volunteers optimally.
5) Every part of an event must be carefully and thoroughly planned, and details must be spelled out, etc. Their must always be back- up or contingency plans, because invariably something needs to be tweaked.
6) Marketing the event must be a priority. There is little as discouraging as spending countless hours meticulously planning and arranging what should be a great event, conference or convention, and then not having sufficient attendance. Attendance is essential to the success of an event for numerous reasons, including economies of scale, morale, conducting essential business, etc. In addition, the greater the amount of sponsorship an event attracts, the more can be offered to attendees and/ or the more can be donated (if the event is a fundraiser). Even if an event is a fundraiser, attendees should be shown a good time and feel they derived value as well as donating. Marketing of an event includes; a) using the flow sheet to indicate value (perceived value); b) face- to- face invitations; c) telephone calls; d) digital communications including texts, emails, E-Blasts, etc.; e) Some direct mailing (postcard mailings are quite effective and cost effective); and every other method that is affordable. The further in advance marketing begins, as well as the frequency of marketing are important factors to consider. Event organizer should remember that surveys show that most individuals need duplication to remember something (that is why, for example, television ads are repeated so often).
Event organizers should understand that the success or failure of an event is often dependent on adherence to these six steps. While there are many other specific details that are needed, if these six areas are not prioritized and addressed in a logical and comprehensive manner, chances for success are severely limited.

Pros And Cons of Breast Augmentation With Fat Transfer

Expert Author Edward Ryan Cullen
Many people have heard of the so-called breast enlargement plastic surgery procedure. There are various techniques that can be used as part of this intervention, including transfer of fat. This is one of the latest tendencies in aesthetic surgery, requiring a single incision of approximately 4 cm for extracting the fat from a surplus area.
The bust size can lead to complex issues, such as self-doubt, which may negatively influence the life of a woman. Many women give up the pressure and choose to increase their breasts by undergoing surgery. Very common until now, silicone seems to "fall" in the second place, with techniques such as fat transfer breast augmentation being preferred instead. According to a recent study in the field, this solution is viable for most women looking to obtain a larger volume for their breasts.
As a first step, fat is extracted from the abdomen or the thigh through a liposuction procedure. Since no more than 200 ml of fat can be injected in a session, most patients will have to undergo more than a single intervention. One of the most important advantages of breast augmentation with fat transfer is the fact that it leaves no scarring on the patient's body. In addition to this, a single incision is required for extracting the fat.
The procedure is also regarded as the ideal solution for correcting sagging. The results of a recent study conducted in the United States show that most women experiencing problems with the volume of their breasts were successfully helped by this powerful intervention. The final results do not only include a significant increase in the size of the breasts, but also in their position, especially if you need a lifting intervention. Finally, the risks associated with regular silicone implants are completely eliminated.
There are many reasons for choosing fat transfer breast augmentation. First of all, the intervention uses living cells from the body of the patient, so no foreign substances are injected while surgery is performed. As a consequence, there is no risk of rejecting the substance, and a natural look for the breasts will be obtained without scarring.
In addition to this, the intervention does not leave marks on the breasts. Most patients also regard it as a solution to get rid of fat on the thighs and abdomen. There are no cuts at the breasts area, while the only traces that can remain visible are those caused by incisions.

A CPA Reminds Business Owners to Seek Help

Expert Author Timothy W. Nelson
In part one of this series, the signals that should drive small business owners to seek financial advice from a CPA were discussed. These include spending too much time on the accounting side of the business, making mistakes that will lead to an audit, declining assets draining resources, stagnating revenue and missing productivity. However, don't despair because a certified public accountant can usually resolve each of these situations easily.
Shifting Focus
The first thing a CPA can do for business owners is help them put the emphasis back on their passions. It is frequently said that if you want to be successful, do what you love. The problem is that most owners don't love doing payroll, accounting, or tax preparations. The certified public accountant can take care of all of that. For someone like a landscaper, this allows the owner to put their focus back on their business.
The Dreaded Audit
As long as a certified public accountant is consulted before the IRS targets the business for an audit, the CPA can often avoid them completely. That is because they can avoid those red flags like little or no sales with high expenses. Something like that will catch the attention of the IRS every time. A CPA can also help avoid late filings and all of the late fees associated with them. Plus, if an audit is called, the accountant will be invaluable during the process.
Declining Assets
Business owners also need the financial advice of a CPA for things like declining assets. These often drain the resources of a company, but that doesn't need to be the case. Certified public accountants can carefully analyze all of the assets. By doing so they can track each asset and how much it declines. They can then plug this info into a formula and take the depreciation off as a tax-deductible expense over the lifetime of the assets. This can be a substantial savings.
Stagnant Revenues
Stagnant revenues can also be an area that a CPA can provide valuable advice. Accountants can help the owner create a system so that revenues and expenses can be tracked. Using this system and analysis gleaned from tax returns, they can identify trends and create reports that the owners can use to guide future decisions. They are also able to help the owner understand the reports so that the most can be made from the information.
Lack of Employee Productivity
While employee productivity may not seem like an area where a certified public account can provide financial advice, they can. Think of the reports that are generated through payroll and the tale those reports can tell. Tax returns and payroll can yield a wealth of information including comparing hours worked with the amount of sales. In addition, an accountant might be able to suggest jobs that could be outsourced.
So if any of these situations apply to your small business, do not worry. A CPA's services can help free up your time so that you are able to return to your passion. He or she can also help prevent an audit or provide expert backup in the event of an audit. The accountant can also carefully analyze reports on assets, revenue, and productivity to provide the business owner with a complete picture of the business. Plus, the accountant is there to help the owner understand just how those reports can guide the business.
